SunFDDI/S 6.0 and SunFDDI/P 2.0 - Web Release Only

The SunFDDI(TM) SBus Adapter 6.0 and SunFDDI(TM) PCI Adapter 2.0 are supported on systems running
the Solaris(TM) operating environment, versions 2.5.1, 2.6, and 7.

This document describes how to install the driver software for the SunFDDI/S 6.0 and SunFDDI/P 2.0
web release.
 
Note -  For a list of supported platforms and complete information about how to configure the
SunFDDI(TM) Driver software, refer to the SunFDDI(TM) SBus Adapter 6.0 User's Guide, part number
805-5447-10, or the SunFDDI(TM) PCI Adapter 2.0 User's Guide, part number 805-5449-10.
 

Before Installing the Software

Installing the SunFDDI/S or SunFDDI/P Adapter

If your system does not contain a SunFDDI device, shutdown the system and install
the adapter described in your SunFDDI User's Guide.

Note -  If your system supports Dynamic Reconfiguration (DR), do not shutdown or reboot,
refer to Installation manual that shipped with your system for further installation instructions.

Removing previous version of SunFDDI/S 5.x and SunFDDI/P 1.0 software.

          Before proceeding with installing the latest version of SunFDDI Driver software on the
          system, you must remove older version of SunFDDI Driver.

          Check for existing SunFDDI software packages by using pkginfo command:

   # /usr/bin/pkginfo | grep nf    /* for SBus */
   # /usr/bin/pkginfo | grep pf    /* for PCI */

Note -  If you are using FDDI as your main network interface, do this de-installation
process from the system console only.  Make sure no users or applications are running
on the system.

Remove the software packages.  As super-user (root), execute the following:
   # /usr/sbin/pkgrm SUNWnft SUNWnfr    /* for SBus */
   # /usr/sbin/pkgrm SUNWpft SUNWpfr    /* for PCI */
 

Installation

Download the SunFDDI/S 6.0 and SunFDDI/P 2.0 release package/file

1.  Download the sunfddi_s6np2.tar.gz or sunfddi_s6np2.tar.Z file.

2.  Copy the file to a working directory such as /opt/sunfddi
     Become root (super-user).

3.  Uncompress this file in the working directory, for example /opt/sunfddi, as follow:

# uncompress sunfddi_s6np2.tar.Z
                    or
# gunzip sunfddi_s6np2.tar.gz
 
4.  Un-tar the uncompressed tar file as follows:
      # tar xf sunfddi_s6np2.tar

5.  The sunfddi_s6_0_and_p2_0 directory will be created in your working directory.

Install the SunFDDI/S 6.0 (SBus) software

1. Install the SunFDDI/S 6.0 driver software packages required for your operating system.  For the Solaris 2.5.1, 2.6, and 7 operating system, type:

2. After the software has been installed, you should backup sunfddi_s6_0_and_p2_0 directory or the tar file.

Installing the SunFDDI/P 2.0 (PCI) software

1. Install the SunFDDI/P 2.0 driver software packages required for your operating system.  For the Solaris 2.5.1 (starting with Hardware 4/97), 2.6, and 7 operating
system, type:
 
# cd <working_directory>/sunffdi_s6_0_and_p2_0/Product/pci
# pkgadd -d . SUNWpfd SUNWpfh SUNWpfm SUNWpfu
 
2. After the software has been installed, you should  backup sunfddi_s6_0_and_p2_0 directory or the tar file.
 
Note - After installing the driver software, refer to the Installation Guide that came with your adapter for information on how to configure the software.
